“I am literally shaking right now,” one Ye enthusiast tweeted following the release. “I can’t eat, can’t sleep, I cannot even talk without every inch of my body metamorphosing into the spiritual awakening that is DONDA. I am lost for words. Kayne west is nothing short of a divine being. I have never felt closer to god before.”
Another devotee tweeted, “I just want to personally thank @kanyewest. For what has been a stressful and anxious time in my life, your music and everything you do gives me a beacon of hope and a sense of happiness and relief that not much else can provide! Never change, and continue being you. Thank you.”
Donda was first due on July 23 via G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam Recordings following Kanye’s first large-scale listening event inside Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, but then the project experienced multiple delays. Named after the rapper’s mom who died in 2007, Donda comes nearly two years after his ninth studio album, Jesus Is King, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Donda features numerous high-profile collaborations, including The Weeknd and Lil Baby (“Hurricane”), Travis Scott (“Praise God”), Young Thug and Pop Smoke (“Tell the Vision”), Kid Cudi (“Moon”), Pusha T, Roddy Ricch and Ariana Grande (“Donda”), and more. But fans seemed most excited about West reinstating Jay-Z’s verse on “Jail,” which featured a different verse by DaBaby at Ye’s third listening event in Chicago.
At press time, West added a 27th track to Donda titled Jail pt 2,” but the song is apparently being held up because of clearance issues from DaBaby, according to an Instagram post by West on Sunday.
